The Yelm Business Association will host a mediated town hall meeting 5:30-7 p.m. Tuesday, March 10, in the all-purpose room at Yelm Middle School. The meeting will be an opportunity for community members who have been looking for a way to get involved to focus on two main questions: How do you see Yelm today? How would you like to see Yelm in the future?
“I’m really looking forward to meeting citizens of Yelm who don’t usually come to city meetings or councils,” YBA Secretary and Treasurer Molly Carmody said.
The group plans to host more such meetings in the future. For this initial phase, Carmody said the emphasis will be on information gathering.
“We want to hear from everyone in Yelm — the commuters, the military families, our older citizens, and members of the Nisqually tribe - to find out what they like and dislike about Yelm, and what they’d like to see in years to come,” she said.
Carmody emphasized the invitation extends to residents of surrounding areas as well.
“Yelm is the hub to so many rural neighborhoods. Lake Lawrence, Clearwood, the Nisqually reservation, the folks out toward Rainier, their input is just as important as that of residents within the city limits, maybe even more so because they have to travel to get here,” she said.
