Third Congressional District Rep. Marie Gluesenkamp Perez, D-Washougal, has returned more than $1 million owed to constituents by the federal government, the freshman lawmaker announced Monday.
In a news release, Gluesenkamp Perez said her office has worked to solve more than 1,000 constituent cases. The efforts of her office have returned a total of $1,255,037, she said.
“While today’s divided Congress can move at a glacial pace, my bipartisan team is working each day to provide direct support to people across Southwest Washington,” Gluesenkamp Perez said in a statement. “One of the most important parts of my job is cutting through red tape to get results for folks from federal agencies like the IRS and VA. We’ve recovered sums in the tens of thousands of dollars that can really make a difference for families.”
The returned funds include $521,798 from the IRS, $435,025 from the Social Security Administration and $147,345 from the VA.
“A little over one year in, my office has brought over $1.2 million back home to more than 1,000 constituents, whether it’s from Social Security checks, tax refunds or veterans benefits owed to our local heroes,’” Gluesenkamp Perez said. “We’re not stopping there, so if you need assistance with the federal government, please reach out to my office so we can advocate for you.”
A little more than a year into her term, Gluesenkamp Perez has responded to 74,817 letters, calls and emails from constituents, she said.
