Food Bank

The Yelm Community Services food bank, at 624 Crystal Springs St. NW in Yelm, will hold a food giveaway from 1 to 3:45 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 19. Clients cannot enter the building and must wait in their vehicles. Staff will have pre-packed carts of food to hand out. To prevent health issues, the usual food sign-in procedures will not take place. Staff will ask the number of people in the family. People who come can only pick up for their own family. Please park in front of the food bank building.

Heritage of Nisqually Culture With Hanford McCloud

Join Hanford McCloud, one of the area’s best storytellers, for the story of the heritage of Nisqually culture at the City of Yelm’s first “Storytellers” event. The event is free and will last from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Yelm Community Center at 301 Second St. SE.

Leads at Lunch

The Yelm Chamber of Commerce will host its Leads at Lunch meeting at noon on Friday, Jan. 20 at The Grill at 507, 608 E. Yelm Ave. Come meet local business owners, employees and community members at the networking event.

Saturday, Jan. 21

Movie and Game PJ Party

The Thurston County Inclusion group will host a free movie and game PJ party from 6 to 8 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 21 at the Rainier Elementary School at 600 Third St. W. The party will feature one room for younger participants where the movie will play, while another room will be set up for older participants and will include various games. Yelm Amateur Radio Group

The Yelm Amateur Radio Group will meet at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 28. The group is a nonprofit organization that provides testing for licensing related to radio, as well as an interest in amateur radio. The group meets on the first and third Saturday of each month at the Emanuel Lutheran Church, 206 Third St. SE, in Yelm.

Tornados State Championship Celebration

Join the City of Yelm and Yelm Community Schools to celebrate the 2022 Washington 3A state football champions at Yelm High School on Monday, Jan. 23, beginning at 4 p.m. Fans can either fill the stadium or line the sidewalks throughout campus for the celebration. The event will highlight the team’s success. The players, coaches and community leaders will have the opportunity to address those in attendance.

Business After Hours

Join the Yelm Chamber of Commerce for the first Drive 507 Business After Hours of the new year at 5:07 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 26. Bring your business cards and come meet and mingle with chamber members, business owners and community members  at 507 Taproom and Filling Station.

Prairie Point Quilters Guild Meeting

The Prairie Point Quilters Guild hosts its meetings on the second and fourth Thursday of each month. The meeting takes place from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Rainier Senior Center, 108 Michigan St. S. Anyone who is interested is welcome to join the group for its meetings.

Estuarium Introduction to Ornithology

Puget Sound Estuarium will host a Facebook live and Zoom meeting at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 2 for an introduction to ornithology, which is the study of birds. Saturday, Feb. 11

Fundraising Breakfast

The Yelm Senior Center will host its fundraising breakfast from 9 to 11 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 11. It costs $8 per person. The breakfast includes biscuits and gravy, scrambled eggs and bacon, waffles, coffee, tea, hot chocolate, juice and milk. The fundraising breakfast takes place on the second Saturday of each month. The senior center is located at 16530 103rd Ave. SE in Yelm.
