The South Puget Sound Community College (SPSCC) men’s basketball team clinched a spot in the 2024 Northwest Athletic Conference’s (NWAC) Basketball Championships this March.

The Clippers will take on Columbia Basin College in Pasco, Washington, in the Sweet 16 at noon on Wednesday, March 6.

“I’m so proud of this group,” SPSCC head coach Zachary Smith said in a news release. “We definitely didn’t have an easy road. We had some tough battles early on in the season that our guys learned from and kept competing. It’s been a total team effort to get to this point.”

Jazen Guillory, a sophomore guard from Ferndale High School, has been an integral part of the Clippers’ success this season. As a team captain, “his leadership has inspired his teammates and contributed significantly to their cohesion,” according to the release. Off the court, Jazen serves as a member of NWAC’s Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion Committee.

Freshman point guard Quincy Linton, from O’Dea High School, has also established himself as a key player for the Clippers. His “maturity and leadership qualities have earned him respect from both his teammates and coaches, making him a crucial component of the team’s lineup,” according to the release.

“We started this year with one goal, and that was to hang another banner in our gym,” Smith added in the release. “Each player has contributed in big moments to help us win games and I’m so excited these guys get to go compete in the postseason. I feel like this could be the team to accomplish that goal. There’s nothing better than basketball in March! Go Clippers!”

The championships run from March 6 to March 10 and March 16 to March 17 at Columbia Basin College’s Student Recreation Center. Games will be live-streamed on the NWAC Sports Network.
