A Ridgeline Middle School student was arrested without incident on Wednesday, March 6, for alleged possession of a live firearm.

Yelm Police took the student into custody after other students reported the concern to school staff. Yelm Community Schools (YCS) is assisting law enforcement. There was no threat, and all students and staff were safe, according to an email sent to families by YCS Superintendent Chris Woods.

At this time, the district is choosing not to share details that “could jeopardize the investigation,” Woods wrote in the email.

“We want to commend our students for stepping forward and reporting this concern to school staff and thank our law enforcement and our student resource officers for their quick response,” he wrote. “We want to remind students, staff and families about the importance of reporting any information that may threaten another person’s safety.”
