One man was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence after crashing his vehicle into a power pole on West Road Southeast in Yelm after 7 p.m. on Friday, April 5. The road, located behind Yelm Cinemas, was temporarily closed to Northeast Fourth Street before Puget Sound Energy stabilized the pole, which was leaning after the impact.

Yelm Police Department and Southeast Thurston Fire crews responded to the crash and checked the suspect for injuries, but he was uninjured. No other persons were injured. Yelm police said the vehicle, a Chrysler LYRIQ with temporary license plates, was speeding around the corner before hitting the pole. The auto suffered extensive damage to the front exterior, and the front right tire and wheel were nearly dislodged from the vehicle.
