The autopsy of an inmate found unconscious at the Nisqually Jail and later transferred to Providence St. Peter Hospital where he died is expected sometime this week pending toxicology reports.
Joseph Cagey, 28, of Bellingham, was in custody at the Nisqually Jail on charges of a suspected drug paraphernalia possession violation when he was found unconscious on Saturday, Dec. 21.
According to The Olympian, Lacey First District 3 was among the agencies contacted by staff on Saturday morning when they found Cagey.
He was transferred to St. Peter where he died Dec. 22.
Thurston County Coroner Gary Warnock, said an autopsy was performed Tuesday, Dec. 24. The report is pending toxicology reports, he told the Nisqually Valley News.
The coroner’s office is investigating the cause and manner of death, Warnock said. According to The Olympian, Thurston County Sheriff’s Office is not investigating Cagey’s death.
