A 17-year-old boy was involved Friday, June 19, in a hit and run crash into a light pole at Prairie Park.
Yelm officers responded to what appeared to be a disabled vehicle at the intersection of 103rd Avenue and Yelm Avenue the morning of the incident.
The vehicle appeared to have undergone serious damage, and the male driver and female passenger appeared disoriented, according to police reports.
After refusing to be treated for “obvious head injuries,” and as officers were gathering information, the black truck occupied by the two individuals began to drive away.
After a short chase that led them down only a few blocks, the truck’s engine turned off and reportedly stopped working.
Yelm officers then detained the driver of the truck and his legal guardian was contacted after police confirmed he was a minor. The two were later released to the driver’s grandmother.
The light pole, owned by Prairie Park Holdings and located near 507 Taproom, is valued at about $5,000. Neither party in this incident appeared intoxicated, according to Yelm officers.
