A 38-year-old Tacoma man is facing charges of driving under the influence and vehicular assault after a three-vehicle crash that injured a 34-year-old Roy man on State Route 167 about a half mile south of Tacoma, according to the Washington State Patrol.
Ricardo Gayosso Beltran, who officials say caused the crash, was driving northbound in the center turn lane in a 2000 Ford Windstar when he struck a 2019 Ford Escape driven by Andrew K. Hickman, 34, of Roy, at about 5 p.m. Wednesday. The collision caused Hickman’s vehicle, which was also traveling northbound, to strike a 2002 Ford F-250 pickup truck driven by Ibrahim A. Alsawadi, 32, of Fircrest.
State Route 167 was blocked for an hour and a half as troopers processed the scene.
Hickman was injured but was not transported from the scene by ambulance.
All three drivers were wearing seat belts.
The State Patrol noted that drugs or alcohol played a factor in the crash, adding that Beltran will face a charge of vehicular assault.
