The city of Yelm’s annual 5K For the Fallen, a 5K run/walk/bike event on the Yelm-Tenino Trail in honor of those who have given their lives in service to this country, will begin at 3:30 p.m. Friday, May 24, at the Yelm Community Center.

Those who participate in this free event are encouraged to wear blue to serve as a “moving memorial for all those who have lost their lives protecting our freedoms,” states a press release on the topic. This moving memorial also serves as a reminder to support the families these soldiers have left behind.

No matter how long it has been since a family lost a loved one in this manner, taking the time to participate in this event will honor those heroic men and women., the city said in a press release.

“By setting aside a small portion of our day we show our gratitude and remembrance for the courage, heroism and sacrifice of the men and women who have made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom,” City Administrator Michael Grayum said.
