Staff and former employees from the Nisqually Valley News learned last week they are finalists for multiple Better Newspaper Contest awards.

The contest, put on by the Washington Newspaper Publishers Association, aims to highlight excellence in local journalism on an annual basis. The WNPA is an advocate for community newspapers, press freedom and government transparency in Washington state.

The Nisqually Valley News was recognized in three major categories — General Excellence, Advertising and News. Staff recognized include former employees Brian Edwards and Daniel Warn in addition to current NVN reporter Eric Rosane.

An award ceremony will be held at the 132nd Annual WNPA Convention in October where winners will be announced.
