The Yelm Tornados (7-3 overall) will take on the Kennewick Lions (9-1) in the first round of the 3A state playoffs this Saturday, Nov. 16, at Lampson Stadium in Kennewick. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m.
Yelm is the No. 12 seed and Kennewick is the No. 5 seed, as selected by the 3A State Seeding Committee Sunday.
The Lions were the runners up in the mixed 3A/4A Mid Columbia Conference, going 7-1 in league play. The matchup against Kennewick will be a challenging contest for the Tornados as the Lions look to extend an eight-game win streak.
Kennewick is also coming off a 24-7 district win against Shadle Park at home. The Lions have been undefeated at home so far this season. Yelm advanced after a 27-17 crossover win over Edmonds-Woodway last Friday at home.
The winner of Saturday’s game will move on to the quarterfinals matchup and face off against either the No. 4 Bethel Braves (7-3) or the No. 13 Garfield Bulldogs (5-4).
For a second year, the Tornados were ranked as the low-tier 12 seed by WIAA’s 3A Seeding Committee, which convened and announced the results last Sunday.
The game will be streamed online by the NFHS Network. The Nisqually Valley News will also post regular updates on its Facebook page live from Kennewick.
