A Centralia man was transported to an Olympia hospital Wednesday after being struck by a vehicle that was entering a construction zone on State Route 8, according to the Washington State Patrol.
The vehicle’s driver, Jerry L. Jones, 74, of Tumwater, faces charges of hit and run, second-degree assault and reckless endangerment.
According to the State Patrol, sometime before 8:41 a.m. a 1992 Buick Century driven by Jones was traveling southbound on Summit Lake Road approaching State Route 8. The road was closed for construction but the vehicle continued on through road closure signs.
A 48-year-old Centralia man was on foot and attempted to stop the vehicle but was instead struck.
Jones allegedly left the scene. He was later arrested and booked into the Thurston County Jail.
Drugs or alcohol are not believed to have contributed to the incident, according to WSP.
