Yelm’s Brayden Platt Named MaxPreps Washington Player of the Year

Following an impressive 20-13 victory over Eastside Catholic in the 3A State Championship game, which capped off a perfect 14-0 season for the Tornados, running back and linebacker Brayden Platt was named the MaxPreps Washington Player of the Year.

Platt is rated as a four star linebacker, according to 24/7 Sports, and is the 78th ranked player nationally in the class of 2024. The 6-foot-2, 230-pound junior is the ninth rated linebacker in his class, and the number two ranked athlete in the state of Washington for 2024.

He currently holds 11 full ride Division One offers from Arizona, California, Duke, Georgia Tech, Louisville, Michigan, Mississippi State, Oregon, Utah, the University of Washington and Washington State.

Platt dominated on both sides of the ball, totaling 1,242 rushing yards and 24 touchdowns on 132 carries in 12 games. He averaged 9.41 yards per carry and 103.5 yards per game. It should be noted that Platt, as well as the rest of the Tornados starters, played during the first half of the majority of games during the regular season. He was also effective in the receiving game, collecting 12 catches for 227 yards and a touchdown.

Defensively, Platt finished the season with 69 tackles, which included five tackles for loss. He added a sack, and an interception to his defensive stats as well. His lone interception helped seal the Tornados’ state championship victory over Eastside Catholic on Dec. 3.



Platt, a multisport athlete, has excelled beyond the gridiron. He placed third in the 285-pound classification at the 2022 Mat Classic and will look to secure his first state championship in wrestling when the 2023 Mat Classic rolls around.

Track and field has been no different for the star athlete. Platt earned state championship honors in shot put with a throw of 61 feet, 6 inches. He also placed second in discus with a throw of 152 feet, 11 inches, and second in javelin with a throw of 191 feet, 9 inches.

He placed second at the 2022 Nike Outdoor Nationals in javelin with a throw of 214 feet and half an inch, and placed seventh in shot put with a throw of 60 feet, 8 inches.

Platt earned All-American honors for his javelin efforts at the Nike Outdoor Nationals.

Along with his track All-American honors, Platt was also invited to the 2024 All American Bowl on NBC to display his talents nationally in football. He received the invitation on June 9.
