The City of Yelm has partnered with Mural Mosaic’s Global Roots Project for the installation of the America Connects Family Time National Mural Mosaic in Yelm on Feb. 18, 2025.

The mosaic artwork is a collaboration of artists of all skill levels from throughout the nation and participants from around the world who have come together to create a mural. Each artist has contributed a unique tile to the mural, creating an intricate and beautiful piece of art.

Yelm was one of six locations across the United States and Canada for the project. Each submitted piece of art will be displayed in each of the six murals. Yelm’s mural will be located at 204 SE McKenzie Ave.

Mural Mosaic inventor Lewis Lavoie will place each participant’s painting into a mosaic one at a time. He will carefully select an area of the mural that each tile will fit for shape, color, contrast, depth and shadow. Paintings are placed together first online, then the final location is chosen and the mural is produced physically for installation.

“A project like the Global Roots Project is the perfect fit for a community like Yelm, a community that comes together, rallies, to make Yelm an incredible place to live, work, and play,” Line Roy, Yelm’s communications and recreation coordinator, said in a press release. “This will be such a great addition to our art scene and we look forward to displaying this community art piece for years to come.”

All tile kits have been claimed as of Tuesday, Dec. 10.
