The Yelm girls soccer team ran into a tough Union squad in its home opener Tuesday night, as the Tornados lost 7-0.

The game marked the debut of new head coach David Temple.

Union scored six goals in the first half, and the seventh came in the second half on a rebound off of a blocked penalty kick.

“Union is a tough team with some great talent. We are a very young team, and both myself and the team are still learning,” Temple said. “We have some things to work on, and I am looking forward to watching these young players improve throughout the season.”

Yelm (0-1) will look to bounce back next week in another non-conference matchup at Auburn Tuesday, Sept. 8. The Tornados will return home Wednesday, Sept. 16 to face W.F. West.
