The Washington State Auditor’s office performs an independent audit of each school district in the state annually, and Yelm Community Schools’ audit began on Friday, March 28, according to YCS Superintendent Chris Woods.
During a YCS board meeting on Thursday, March 27, Woods said results from the yearly audit will be shared to the district’s website. Results from previous YCS audits can be viewed online at ycs.wednet.edu/departments/business-services or at https://tinyurl.com/YCSaudit00.
“We’ll have Washington state auditors here looking at a couple areas. All financial internal controls for transactions and systems, and they’ll also choose federal programs to look at as well,” Woods said. “We’ll keep you up to date on that. Just so people know, we place all of our previous audits on our website and the reports from those audits and we’ll do the same with this one. Once it’s complete, we’ll put it up for everyone to see.”
The superintendent said that Jennifer Carrougher, YCS chief of finance, has been busy in preparation for the audit, and added he had his meeting with state auditors on Thursday, March 27. According to Woods, the state auditors will meet with the superintendent and a school board member before and after the audit occurs.
