Mayor Joe DePinto’s latest appointment to a City of Yelm committee was made official by the Yelm City Council on Tuesday, Feb. 25, as Amar Dhariwal was unanimously voted to the city’s Lodging Tax Advisory Committee (LTAC).

Councilors Joshua Crossman, Stephanie Kangiser, Joseph Richardson, Brian Hess and Terry Kaminski each voted yes. Councilors Tracey Wood and Trevor Palmer were not in attendance during Feb. 25’s Yelm City Council meeting.

Any city or county with a population of 5,000 or more that imposes any lodging tax is required to establish a lodging tax advisory committee to review the applications and make funding recommendations to the legislative body.

The new appointee, Dhariwal, is the new general manager at the Prairie Hotel in Yelm, which is one of the qualifiers for the LTAC committee, according to DePinto.

“It’s been very difficult to get another member for this,” DePinto said.

In Dhariwal’s application, she wrote she’d like to be involved in helping the city grow. Though she’s new to Yelm, she said she worked closely with the city and mayor at the previous hotel she worked at.

“I am excited and ready to help the community thrive,” she wrote.
