Yelm Community Schools  levy open house

Yelm Community Schools is hosting an informational open house about the replacement levy included on the April 23 special election ballot at 6 p.m., Thursday, April 11, at Lackamas Elementary School, 16240 Bald Hill Road SE, Yelm. Go to https://www.ycs.wednet.edu/Page/4637 for more information.

 

Friday, April 12

Inaugural art walk

Yelm High School is hosting the inaugural Yelm Art Walk from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., Friday, April 12, at Yelm High School. The event will showcase the artwork from all student levels and all media.

Saturday, April 13

LEGO Club at Timberland Library

The Yelm Timberland Library is set to host a LEGO Club meeting from 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 13. The club meetings take place on the second Saturday of each month, including on May 11 and June 8. Each meeting will present a monthly theme to build around, but participants are welcome to use their creativity to create their own LEGO masterpieces, if desired. Younger children should be accompanied to the event. The library is located at 201 Prairie Park St. SE, in Yelm. 

 

InGenius! Community Art Show

To celebrate Arbor Day and the Pacific Northwest, InGenius! is hosting a nature-focused community art show from Saturday, April 13 to Saturday, April 27. To wrap up the show on April 27, InGenius! will host an open house with raffles, refreshments and a final chance to view the art show and meet the artists. Charcuterie board workshop

The City of Yelm’s Parks and Recreation Department will host a “charcuterie board workshop” from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, April 16, at the Yelm Community Center, 301 Second St. SE. The event costs $125, and participants can register online at lf.yelmwa.gov/Forms/CharcuterieBoardWS. Attendants will learn the art of balancing flavors, textures and aesthetics to assemble a gourmet charcuterie masterpiece, according to the event’s description. After the event, people can bring home their newly created charcuterie board, which will be suitable for four to six people.

Virtual town hall meeting for the visually impaired

The Washington State Department of Services for the Blind is hosting an online spring town hall meeting from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., Wednesday, April 17, online. The town hall meetings offer an opportunity for members of the public to hear directly from the agency and ask questions and raise concerns. Everyone is welcome to log into this virtual town hall. This event is free, but participants need to register in advance at https://dsb.wa.gov/events/dsb-town-hall.

Friday, April 19

Christian country artist Luke Yates concert

Popular Christian country recording artist Luke Yates will perform at 7 p.m., Friday, April 19, at Rainier Chapel, 206 Binghampton St. SE. This is a free, non-ticketed, non-denominational event, and the public is welcome. People are advised to come early for the best seating. 



Saturday, April 20

Norway Day

Norway Day is scheduled for Saturday, April 20, at the Thurston County Fairgrounds, 3054 Carpenter Road SE, Lacey. The event includes music, dancing, arts, food and activities based on the experience of Viking life through Viking NorseWest.

The Nisqually Valley Spring Expo, previously named the Nisqually Valley Home & Garden Show, will take place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, April 27, at Yelm High School, 1315 W. Yelm Ave. The event will feature a home and garden focus with approximately 70 vendors from Yelm and the surrounding areas.

Yelm Ave. The event will feature a home and garden focus with approximately 70 vendors from Yelm and the surrounding areas.

Saturday, May 4

Yelm Farmers Market kickoff

The 2024 Yelm Farmers Market will take place from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., Saturday, May 4, at 206 McKenzie Ave., near City Park. The event will feature 20 or more vendors offering farmers, artisans, bakers, beekeepers, leatherworkers and more, plus a children’s program and special events. Galaxy Fest

The City of Yelm Parks and Recreation Department will host “Galaxy Fest” from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday, May 4, at the Yelm Community Center, 301 Second St. SE. The free event will allow attendants to meet actual Star Wars characters, create a hero or villain to take home, participate in the special Agents of Discovery “Space Challenge” and earn a sticker for their Parks Passport. 

Saturday, June 22

Party on the Prairie: Centennial Celebration Concert

The City of Yelm Parks and Recreation Department will host its free “Party on the Prairie: Centennial Celebration Concert” from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Saturday, June 22, at Yelm City Park, 115 Mosman Ave. SE. The event will feature country music artist and songwriter Adam Craig as the headliner. The Hogue and Moore Band will open for Craig at the free concert. People are invited to indulge in food and beverages from a selection of vendors or bring their own refreshments. A beer garden will also be available at the event. 

Sunday, June 23

Fourth annual charity mushball tournament

The City of Yelm Parks and Recreation Department will host the fourth annual charity mushball tournament from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday, June 23 at Longmire Park, 16820 Canal Road SE. Registration for the event will open soon. Each team must have at least four women and four men on its roster.
