Tornados cruising through conference schedule

The Yelm High School softball team has a winning recipe this season: score double-digit runs. The Tornados have not lost a game in which they score 10 or more runs and have not won a game in which they don’t.

This trend continued last week as they swept their three games against South Sound Conference opponents. Yelm first blasted Capital, 22-3, on Wednesday, April 10, at Yauger Park thanks to a big day from senior Madisyn Erickson, who went 4 for 4 with a solo home run. The Tornados followed it up with a 14-4 home victory against Central Kitsap on Thursday, April 11, behind Elissa Dewees’ three hits and two runs batted in. They capped off their three-game sweep with an 11-8 triumph against River Ridge on Monday, April 15, at Regional Athletic Complex. Erickson drove in three runs with an in-park home run and a double, and pitcher Mallory Hoke earned the win for Yelm, striking out eight batters over eight innings.

Yelm (8-2-1, 6-1 SSC) hosted a non-league contest against Shelton on Wednesday, April 17, but results were not available before press time. The Tornados get six days off before paying a visit to Timberline, which handed them their second loss of the season in March, on Tuesday, April 23.
