Thurston County and the Deputy Sheriff’s Association have ratified a contract for Thurston County Sheriff’s Office (TCSO) deputies and detectives who are set to see pay increases of up to 19% over the next three years, according to Sheriff Derek Sanders in a social media post.
Deputies and detectives will receive the highest wage increase in bargaining unit history, Sanders said.
The Thurston County Board of Commissioners approved the contract during their Tuesday business meeting, and the contract will run from 2025 through 2027.
TCSO deputies and detectives will receive an 11% increase for 2025 with back pay for working out of contract and receive additional incentives such as increased sick leave cash out and voluntary employees’ beneficiary association payments for post-retirement medical coverage, Sanders wrote.
While the agency currently has few patrol deputy openings, 10 new public safety tax deputy vacancies will open from August through December. Sanders said laterals take hiring priority and now receive longevity pay for total years of service, including from prior agencies.
The new annual salary range for deputies and detectives is $86,000 to $110,000.
