The Thurston County Board of Commissioners has appointed Line Roy to the county’s Lodging Tax Advisory Committee (LTAC).
Roy currently serves as the City of Yelm’s communications and parks and recreation coordinator. The commissioners spoke glowingly of Roy and her qualifications during their Tuesday, Feb. 4, agenda-setting meeting, during which they approved her appointment unanimously.
“She’s just like superwoman in south county. To have somebody that can bring south county to the table in that kind of powerhouse way, I think it’s a good opportunity for us,” Board Chair Tye Menser said.
The Thurston County LTAC receives all applications for lodging tax revenue and recommends a list of candidates and funding levels to the board for final determination. The LTAC is expected to have approximately $150,000 to distribute in 2025. Lodging tax awards must be used for tourism promotion, acquisition of tourism-related facilities, or operation of tourism-related facilities.
In her application to the county, Roy expressed her interest in further investing in Yelm and the south county.
“I heard that there was an opening to replace a member who had to leave. I’m interested in representing from an organization that would receive lodging tax funds,” she wrote. “I’m heavily invested in Thurston County, especially my local area and south county.”
Roy served on Yelm’s lodging tax advisory committee when she worked with the Yelm Chamber of Commerce.
Vice Chair Wayne Fournier and Commissioner Rachel Grant each praised Roy for the energy she brings to Yelm and to the south county area.
“Her energy is good. If you’ve gone to South Thurston Economic Development Initiative meetings, she’s done several presentations on Yelm’s parks and rec stuff, and she brought a bunch of events to their community,” Fournier said.
In an interview with the Nisqually Valley News, Roy said she is excited for another opportunity to serve the area she calls home.
“I’m super excited to represent Yelm and south Thurston County on this county-wide committee. I hope to bring the same excitement and energy that I try to take with me on all projects and bring tourists to Thurston County, south Thurston County and Yelm,” she said.
