The Yelm Cinemas parking lot is set to be filled with more than 100 vehicles in the third annual Moore Designs Movie and a Car Show Best of the Best event on Saturday, Aug. 3.

Cars will begin to park at 9 a.m., and at noon, a variety of awards will be handed out and items given away. A private screening of “Deadpool & Wolverine” will begin at 1:30 p.m.

All proceeds from the car registrations and movie ticket sales will benefit the Jessi Combs Foundation, which aims to educate, inspire and empower the next generation of female trailblazers. Jessi Combs was a professional racer who set the women’s land speed class record multiple times and was widely regarded as the “fastest woman on four wheels.” She passed away in 2019 after crashing a jet-powered race car in Oregon while attempting to beat her record.

Jesse Moore, who organized the event with his brother, said he chose the Jessi Combs Foundation as the recipient for the proceeds because of its mission to help young women entering the automotive industry by awarding scholarships.

“It’s awesome to see all the different cars come out. It’s great to see that there’s a lot of people out there that want to help out different causes that we support,” he said.

The inaugural event brought in nearly 40 vehicles, while last year’s total was 90. As of Tuesday, July 30, 103 vehicles were pre-registered for this year’s event. Numerous car clubs, including Mustangs West, JBLM Gas Guzzlers, South Sound Mopar and Prairie Street Rod Association, will be represented during the car show.

Each entrant will receive a personalized dash plaque and a giveaway bag. Several items will be given away to entrants and movie ticket holders, such as an autographed Julio Rodriguez Seattle Mariners jersey, an autographed Matt Hasselbeck Seattle Seahawks jersey, an autographed Alice Cooper Funko Pop! figure and more.

Moore Designs Movie and a Car Show will also present awards to cars in the car show, including “best of the best,” “last chance best in show,” the Jessi Combs Foundation award to the best female-owned car, sponsors’ choice and top 10, among others.

“There’s really no requirements for cars,” Moore said. “If you’re passionate about your car that you have, bring it. It doesn’t matter. At the end of the day, it’s about the foundation and helping them out.”

The pre-registration period for vehicles is over, but car owners can still register on Aug. 3 but may not receive the personalized dash plaque and giveaway bag.
