A suspect who eluded Tenino law enforcement Thursday afternoon was arrested later that day on multiple felony charges, the Tenino Police Department stated in a news release.
The series of incidents began at approximately 3:55 p.m. on Jan. 19 when a Tenino police officer received a report of a suspicious vehicle apparently casing Black Bear Espresso in the 740 block of Sixth Avenue West before parking on city property near the public works building, according to the Tenino Police Department. A Tenino city employee had requested the driver of the vehicle be trespassed from the location.
The vehicle was driving away from the location when law enforcement arrived, according to the news release.
Police activated their emergency lights and attempted to conduct a traffic stop of the vehicle, but the vehicle did not stop and fled at a high rate of speed, blowing a stop sign and recklessly passing vehicles during a high traffic volume time period, according to the Tenino Police Department.
Thurston County Sheriff’s Office deputies then went to the location that the vehicle was registered at. While at the scene, deputies saw the vehicle and ordered the driver to stop.
“The driver refused and recklessly attempted to elude,” stated the sheriff’s office.
The vehicle reportedly “lost control” and was stopped in a field, at which time Thurston County deputies ordered the driver to exit the vehicle. The driver was then detained in handcuffs.
During the arrest, deputies recovered a loaded handgun that was reported stolen out of Tacoma, a mask, gloves and binoculars, according to the news release.
The suspect was also found to be a convicted felon with multiple violent convictions and an escape from community custody warrant, according to the news release.
Police then arrested the subject, who was not identified by the Thurston County Sheriff’s Office on Thursday, and booked him into the Lewis County Jail for two felony eluding charges, unlawful possession of a firearm, carrying a weapon without a permit, possession of a stolen firearm and reckless driving.
