Yelm High School Placed on Lockdown Due to Nearby Activity

Yelm Community Schools reported Yelm High School went into lockdown due to law enforcement activity in a neighborhood close to the school at around 9 a.m. on Jan. 12.

Students and staff were instructed to remain in their classrooms and continue regular classroom activities until the Thurston County Sheriff’s Office notified the school.

At 11:09 a.m., Yelm Community Schools provided an update that “all offenders” were arrested and the school was released from the lockdown.

Drug Violation at Yelm City Park Leads to Arrest

Yelm police officers located an individual, with probable cause for his arrest, at Yelm City Park at around 3 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 9

As police officers walked toward the suspect, they noticed he was sleeping face down, with drug paraphernalia next to him.

The paraphernalia included a burnt clear tube, foil and a lighter.

The police officers woke the individual up and arrested him for drug activity in the park, before questioning him about a theft he was tied to.

After a quick search, officers located three pills they believed to be oxycodone on the individual, according to a police report.

Vehicle Prowl Reported Near Terra View Neighborhood

Yelm police officers were dispatched to reports of a suspicious vehicle near the Terra View neighborhood on Thursday, Jan. 12.

Upon arrival, officers noticed an unoccupied vehicle with the driver’s door open.



The car didn’t appear to have any damage to it, and the vehicle owners said nothing was stolen from their car.

There are no leads at this time.

Brawl Takes Place at Bar

Yelm police officers received a call at around 1 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 14 from a customer at the Quarter Mile Bar and Grill who reported a fight had broken out.

The alleged fight included around 10 people, according to police reports.

Upon arrival, officers observed around 20 people outside of the bar. Some of the people were yelling back and forth at each other.

According to the police report, a woman who was punched in the face by an unknown aggressor led to the fight.

The aggressor fled on foot before police officers arrived, but was described as a white woman with blonde hair who was wearing a white T-shirt.

There are no further leads.

Theft of License Plate Reported Near Solberg Street

Yelm police officers responded to a call at around 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 10 after an individual reported their license plate was stolen off of their car near Solberg Street.

The car owner said she did not know when the plate went missing, but she suspected it likely happened between Jan. 2 and Jan. 10.
