Yelm senior running back Ronnie Russell sprinted for an 80-yard rushing touchdown in the first half against Lake Washington Friday night, but that was the only score of the night for the Tornados in a 28-6 loss at home.
Lake Washington led 21-6 at halftime, and the Tornados held the Kangaroos to just seven points in the second half.
The passing offense struggled, as starting quarterback Trenton Sawyers completed just 5 of 23 passes for 52 yards. Russell finished with 99 yards on 11 carries on the ground.
Yelm (0-3) will begin South Puget Sound League play next Friday, Sept. 25 at home against Olympia (3-0)
