The River Ridge boys tennis team rode the success of its doubles teams in a 3-2 home victory over Yelm Wednesday afternoon.

Cole Von Rueden and Lucas Manter of River Ridge bested Aidan Walton and Josiah Leonard of Yelm 6-4, 6-3. Shane Nguyen and Alex Gross from River Ridge narrowly defeated Yelm’s Chance Whiting and Deegan Anderson in a tiebreaker 7-6 (7-5), 4-6, 10-6.

“This was the match of the day,” Yelm head coach Keith McLaren said. “Most games went to one if not several deuces, the net play and teamwork were exceptional, and both teams put in their best effort in this highly competitive match.”

Dane Moholt-Phillips and Matthew Yi of River Ridge teamed up to beat Yelm’s Caylum Tucker and Mister Rabang-Davis 6-1, 6-1.

Yelm took both of the singles matches, as Myles Ackerman defeated Nicholas Dumitrescu 6-2, 6-7 (2-7), 10-7; and Tanner Elmore topped Jared Park 6-3, 6-4.

“At the end, Myles played within himself and hit the more opportune shots. Tanner focused on gaining control through court and ball positioning,” McLaren said. “He made sure to focus on maintaining rallies.”

"We played a great match against Yelm with yet another long series of back-and-forth tiebreakers," River Ridge head coach David Ohrt said. "We are bringing high-level energy and great sportsmanship to the games this year."

River Ridge heads to Lakes Thursday, while Yelm will host Sumner Thursday.
