Rainier Cross Country Athletes Compete at the Central 2B Preview Meet

The Rainier Mountaineers boys and girls cross country teams faced off against other runners at a home meet on Thursday, Sept. 15 at Rainier Elementary School.

The meet began as the middle school runners took to the course, followed by the high school runners.

The meet featured 10 teams, which included Rainier, Onalaska, Adna, Forks, Kalama, Morton-White Pass, Mossyrock, Raymond, Toledo and Willapa Valley.

The Rainier girls runners had a strong showing on the course as four Mountaineers placed in the top five. Sophomore Bryn Beckmen crossed the finish line in first place in the girls race, covering the 5,000 meters in 22:55.70. She was followed by teammates Hailey Tyrrell with 23:13.07, Ella Marvin in third with 23:38.46, and Angelica Askey in fourth at 24:05:03.

Fifth place went to Ayricka Hughes of Morton-White Pass, with a time of 24:41.69.

Two Mountaineers went on to set new personal records during the Central 2B Preview meet as well. This included Olivia Osborne, who set her new personal record with a time of 35:15.61, and Sarah Barry who also set a new personal record with a time of 37:16.50, according to athletic.net.

The Mountaineers also had two boys finish in the top 10. Zach Hamilton set a new personal record of 18.32.3, while James Meldrum finished in ninth place with a time of 19.22.3.



Rainier’s Giacomo Ravelli set a new personal record during the meet with a time of 20:38.2, earning him 16th overall in the boys bracket.

For the Mountaineers middle school runners, the girls had a strong showing in the 2,100-meter run as three girls finished in the top five. Rayanna Wisner finished in first place, setting a new personal record of 12:26.22, while Alexis Myers finished in third place with a time of 13:21.39. In fourth place was Komaire Robles-Foley with a time of 13:30.59. Both Myers and Robles-Foley set new personal records.

Brooklyn Bentz finished in 10th place, setting a new personal record in the process as well. She finished with a time of 14:32.6.

The middle school boys Mountaineers saw four finish within the top 10 during their 2,100-meter run.

Ty Beckman took first place with a time of 8:22.82, setting a new PR in the process. Christopher Tyrell took second place with a time of 8:30.17, while Ixzaah Gitt took sixth with a new personal record of 9:07.01. Gitt was followed by teammate John Paul Sprouffske, who finished eighth with a time of 9:24.13.

The Mountaineers next cross country meet will be on Thursday, Sept. 29 at Winlock High School.
