Rainier alumni offering summer catcher lessons

After a summer playing college baseball at Chemeketa Community College, Michael Green has returned to his hometown of Rainier for the summer with a desire to give back to his community.

The talented athlete, who has a passion for coaching, is teaming up with The Yard to offer baseball lessons to local youth and help them succeed in the sport he loves.

Green said that “Chemeketa is going great,” and that he’s grateful for the opportunities he’s received there. He is equally appreciative of his roots, however, and is determined to make a positive impact in the town where he grew up.

“I just really wanted to give back to this community,” Green said. “I’m really blessed to come out in Rainier, and I want to see as many kids from the small towns succeed.”

Green will be back in Rainier until September, and he will be available for instruction during this time.

His coaching journey began at a young age, working with his father, and since then, he has developed a genuine passion for guiding others on the field.

The chance to work with The Yard came about when Green promoted teaching lessons on Facebook. He then heard back from the owner, Dustin. The timing couldn’t have been more perfect.

“He offered me a great opportunity to go work for him at the Yard,” Green recalled. “He just told me how he wants to help the community, and that’s all I really want, so I’m really glad that he partnered up with me.”

At The Yard, Green will focus on catching skills, imparting his knowledge and expertise to young athletes eager to improve their game.

“Everything to do with catching. We will work!” Green said.

The feedback from the community has also been supportive.

“It’s been really surprising. I’m still shocked at how many people reached out,” Green said.

Growing up in Rainier, Green said he never had access to a facility like The Yard. He’s excited about the opportunities this place now offers to young athletes.

“It’s pretty awesome to have a facility with the batting cage and the ability just to work out and play baseball, softball,” Green said.
