Army Sgt. Aaron Boyle will receive the keys to his new, specially-adapted home off Bald Hill Road at a ceremony at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 7.
Boyle, currently a resident of Roy, will receive the new mortgage-free home thanks to a sponsorship by national nonprofit Homes For Our Troops, which purchases land, builds houses and donates them to injured veterans all across the United States.
“This home will enable me to spend more stress-free time with my family,” Boyle said of his new house, which will feature more than 40 major special adaptations, in a press release.
The public is welcome to attend and tour the home after the ceremony. The event will take place at 19743 149th Ave. SE in Yelm.
Back in 2010, Boyle suffered severe injuries after stepping on an improvised explosive device while serving on a tour in Afghanistan. He lost both his right arm and right leg and suffered severe damage to his left leg.
There are currently more than 80 projects nationwide in need of funding, Homes For Our Troops officials say. The nonprofit is mostly funded by individual donors, supporters and volunteer work, and corporate partnerships.
Earlier this month, nearly 300 volunteers dedicated their Saturday morning to landscape Boyle’s new home. More than 300 man hours resulted in 12,000 feet of sod being rolled out and about 100 trees and shrubs planted around the perimeter of Boyle’s home.
Many groups, including the Wilson High School JROTC program and athletes from Yelm High School, attended the event.
