Passing EP&O levy necessary to providing comprehensive education to students

As a dedicated member of the Yelm community, I am writing to express my enthusiastic support for the educational programs and operations (EP&O) levy that will be on the ballot on April 23. The Yelm Community School District has consistently demonstrated its commitment to providing a comprehensive education that encompasses not only academic excellence, but also health, safety, sports, music and technology programs. Passing this levy is essential to uphold this commitment and ensure the well-rounded development of our students.
One of the primary functions of the EP&O levy is to fund critical health and safety measures within our schools. With the ongoing challenges posed by the pandemic, it is more important than ever to prioritize the health and wellbeing of our students, teachers and staff. The levy enables the district to implement necessary health protocols, provide access to mental health resources and maintain a safe learning environment for everyone.
Additionally, the EP&O levy supports a wide range of extracurricular activities, including sports and music programs. These programs play a vital role in fostering teamwork, leadership skills and personal growth among our students. They provide opportunities for students to discover and cultivate their talents, whether it be on the field, the stage or in the music room. By passing the levy, we can ensure that these enriching experiences remain accessible to all students, regardless of their background or socioeconomic status.
Furthermore, the levy is instrumental in providing essential technology resources and infrastructure to support 21st-century learning.
In today’s increasingly digital world, access to technology is no longer a luxury but a necessity. The levy enables the district to invest in devices, software and professional development for teachers to integrate technology effectively into the curriculum, preparing our students for success in an ever-evolving digital landscape.
I understand that some may have concerns about the financial implications of passing the levy. However, the benefits of investing in our children’s education and wellbeing far outweigh the costs. By supporting this levy, we are investing in the future success of our community and ensuring that Yelm remains a vibrant and thriving place to live and learn.
I urge my fellow community members to join me in voting “yes” for the Yelm Community School EP&O levy on April 23. Let’s come together to ensure that our schools have the resources they need to provide a comprehensive education that empowers every student to reach their full potential.
