Yelm police officer Don Moody was named the City of Yelm Employee of the Quarter at a city council meeting on Tuesday, July 26.
Moody has served as an officer in Yelm for over 18 years, which includes time spent as a school resource officer at Yelm Community Schools.
Over the years, Moody has built strong relationships with many Yelm residents, including students.
Chief of Police Rob Carlson nominated Moody for the honor, which covered the second quarter of 2022. Carlson said Moody has a great attitude and always sets a good example for others.
“I nominated Don mostly for his job in the schools. We couldn’t have done what we did in the schools if it wasn’t for Don,” Carlson said during the city council meeting. “I think the school year might’ve been challenging, but Don navigated those challenges really well.”
Carlson added that Moody’s work expands outside of the school district as well. He works shifts in patrol.
“He’s been working as a police officer for 18 years and he’s getting up there, but he’s still handling his calls and making contacts like he should,” Carlson said. “I hear him on the radio all day, and it’s appreciated by me. It’s appreciated by our sergeants.”
Carlson noted many of the officers at the department are young, and Moody has set a great example for them to follow.
Mayor Joe DePinto said Moody has been diligent in navigating new laws and regulations during the school year, all while providing an important service to Yelm Community Schools.
“He’s proven time and time again to be a great example for officers and city employees to follow. I’ve known officer Moody here for a long time as well, and he’s always been a pleasant and great face for the police department,” DePinto said. “I am glad and honored to announce that officer Moody is the employee of the quarter for the second quarter of 2022.”
