Nisqually Valley News Publisher Michael Wagar was elected to the board of directors of the Washington Newspaper Publishers Association at its 126th annual convention this past weekend in Olympia.
“I’m proud to be part of the board of directors of WNPA,” Wagar said. “The group does great work for the state’s newspapers, from raising funds for scholarships, presenting vibrant seminars and as a strong advocate for freedom of the press and open government.”
In addition to Wagar’s election, the NVN won 12 awards for its advertising, photography and reporting, including five first-place awards.
Wagar joins former NVN Publisher Keven Graves, who is the WNPA’s board’s first vice president. Graves is the publisher of the Whidbey News Group.
The WNPA represents 130 community newspapers across Washington state.
