Southworth Elementary Tours

The Yelm School Board will host tours of the new Southworth Elementary School at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 8 following its meeting at 6 p.m.  

Prairie Point Quilters Guild Meeting

The Prairie Point Quilters Guild hosts its meetings on the second and fourth Thursday of each month. The meeting takes place from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Rainier Senior Center, 108 Michigan St. S. Anyone who is interested is welcome to join the group for its meetings.

Food Bank

The Yelm Community Services food bank, at 624 Crystal Springs St. NW in Yelm, will hold a food giveaway from 1 to 3:45 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 8. Clients cannot enter the building and must wait in their vehicles. Staff will have pre-packed carts of food to hand out. To prevent health issues, the usual food sign-in procedures will not take place. Staff will ask the number of people in the family. People who come can only pick up for their own family. Please park in front of the food bank building.

Saturday, Sept. 10

Yelm FFA Alumni Car Show

The Yelm FFA Alumni Association will host a car show at 9 a.m. at Yelm High School on Saturday, Sept. 10. There is a $20 registration fee for those interested in showing off their prized car, truck or motorcycle. All proceeds go to Yelm FFA students. Yelm High School is located at 1315 W. Yelm Ave.

Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony

The Yelm Chamber of Commerce will hold a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 10 at Graham Auto Repair, 412 E. Yelm Ave. 



Norse West Viking Festival

The Norse West Viking Festival will be held at Cochrane Memorial Park in Yelm on Sept. 10 through Sept. 11. The theme is “The Year of Freya.” There will be local food vendors, a beer garden, music and tradesmen who teach their crafts. For more information, go online to www.nwvikingfest.com. 

Salmon Bake

J.T. Wilcox and Wilcox Farms is set to host the 10th annual J.T. Wilcox salmon bake on Saturday, Sept. 10 beginning at 5 p.m. Tickets to the event can be purchased online at www.efundraisingconnections.com/c/JTWilcox/JTWilcox2022SalmonBake. 

Tuesday, Sept. 13

Chamber Forum

The Yelm Chamber of Commerce will hold its monthly forum titled “State of the Schools” at noon on Tuesday, Sept. 13. It will be held at the Yelm Community Center, 301 Second St. SE. Those who want to attend need to pre-register online at tinyurl.com/y5kym5uv.

Saturday, Sept. 17

Tenino Railroad Days

The community is invited to attend Tenino Railroad Day, which will start at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 17. There will be a ribbon-cutting for the city’s caboose, historical exhibits and activities revolving around the railroad, local vendors, food and live entertainment, including a performance from SeaStar. Events will occur at the Tenino City Park as well as the Tenino Depot Museum located at 399 W. Park Ave.

Yelm Amateur Radio Group

The Yelm Amateur Radio Group will meet at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 17. The group is a nonprofit organization that provides testing for licensing related to radio, as well as an interest in amateur radio. The group meets on the first and third Saturday of each month at the Emanuel Lutheran Church, 206 Third St. SE, in Yelm.
