Home Tornados Volleyball Matchup

On Thursday, Oct. 6, the Yelm Tornados volleyball team will host the Central Kitsap Cougars in a South Sound Conference matchup. The game begins at 7:15 p.m. at Yelm High School’s gymnasium.

Food Bank

The Yelm Community Services food bank, at 624 Crystal Springs St. NW in Yelm, will hold a food giveaway from 1 to 3:45 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 6. Clients cannot enter the building and must wait in their vehicles. Staff will have pre-packed carts of food to hand out. To prevent health issues, the usual food sign-in procedures will not take place. Staff will ask the number of people in the family. People who come can only pick up for their own family. Please park in front of the food bank building.

Friday, Oct. 7

Home Tornados Football Game

The Yelm Tornados will host the Capital Cougars on Friday, Oct. 7. This is the Tornados’ fourth South Sound Conference matchup. Kickoff begins at 7 p.m. and tickets can be purchased online prior to the game.

Saturday, Oct. 8

Fundraising Breakfast

The Yelm Senior Center will host its fundraising breakfast on Saturday, Oct. 8 from 9 to 11 a.m. It costs $8 per person. The breakfast includes biscuits and gravy, scrambled eggs and bacon, waffles, coffee, tea, hot chocolate, juice and milk. The fundraising breakfast takes place on the second Saturday of each month. The senior center is located at 16530 103rd Ave. SE in Yelm.

Yelm Farmers Market

The Yelm Farmers Market summer series continues on Saturday, Oct. 8 at the Yelm Community Park. The market opens at 10 a.m. and wraps up at 3 p.m.

Harvest Anniversary Celebration

BeJoyful Holistics will host a Harvest Anniversary Celebration from 4 to 8 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 8. There will be a variety of vendors as the business celebrates one-year of operation. BeJoyful Holistics is located at 512 W. Yelm Ave. 

Thursday, Oct. 13

Food Preservation Talk

Speakers will talk about a variety of food preservation techniques from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 13 at the Yelm Community Center at 301 Second St. SE. Topics will include canning, fermenting, dehydrating, freeze drying, root cellars and freezing vegetables and fruit. The presentation will be put on by the Yelm Food Sovereignty Project.



Prairie Point Quilters Guild Meeting

The Prairie Point Quilters Guild hosts its meetings on the second and fourth Thursday of each month. The meeting takes place from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Rainier Senior Center, 108 Michigan St. S. Anyone who is interested is welcome to join the group for its meetings.

Saturday, Oct. 15

Vietnamese Summer Roll Class

Yelm’s Red Lantern Asian Fusion will host a hands-on class to teach participants how to make Vietnamese summer or spring rolls, also known as Gỏi cuốn. The cost to participate is $55. People can register for the event by calling  360-888-6897.

Thursday, Oct. 20

Connecting With Nature’s Resources

Jessica Caldwell, with Wildkind Academy, will talk about how people can connect with nature’s abundant resources from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 20 at the Yelm Community Center at 301 Second St. SE. The presentation will be put on by the Yelm Food Sovereignty Project.

Yelm Amateur Radio Group

The Yelm Amateur Radio Group will meet at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 20. The group is a nonprofit organization that provides testing for licensing related to radio, as well as an interest in amateur radio. The group meets on the first and third Saturday of each month at the Emanuel Lutheran Church, 206 Third St. SE, in Yelm.

Saturday, Oct. 29

Trunk-or-Treat in Yelm

Moore Designs will host a trunk-or-treat event at Yelm Cinemas from 3 to 6 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 29. There are over 90 parking spots on the asphalt and a field that’s available for use. Awards will be given for best in show, best costume, best theme, and kids choice award. Dash plaques will be given to all participants who bring a vehicle to decorate. Giveaways will include an autographed photo from Christopher Lloyd, who played Uncle Fester in Addams Family, and an autographed photo from Joseph Quinn, who played Eddie Munson in Stranger Things. The event is free.

Trunk-or-Treat in Rainier

The We Love Rainier WA group will hold its 10th annual “Halloween Trunk or Treat in the Park” on Saturday, Oct. 29 at Wilkowski Park in Rainier. The trunk-or-treat event will start at 4 p.m. It’s followed by a costume contest at 5:30 p.m. and a Witches Ball at 6 p.m., which will feature music and dancing. Jerk Juicy BBQ will provide food throughout the duration of the event.

Friday, Nov. 11

Christmas Bazaar

The Yelm Senior Center will host its Christmas Bazaar from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 11 and from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 12. The event is limited to 25 vendors. Contact the Yelm Senior Center at 360-458-7733 for more information. The senior center is located at 16530 103rd Ave. SE in Yelm.
