Senior Lunches

The Yelm Adult Community Center will hold its weekly lunches at 11:30 a.m. to noon on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays. Senior Services for the South Sound operates the Senior Nutrition Program, using the Yelm Senior Center’s commercial kitchen and dining room, at 16530 103rd Ave. SE in Yelm. Their staff prepares lunches for the Yelm, Tenino and Rochester senior centers and Meals on Wheels for homebound seniors in the area.

Food Bank

The Yelm Community Services food bank, at 624 Crystal Springs St. NW in Yelm, will hold a food giveaway from 1 to 3:45 p.m. on Thursday, May 5. Clients cannot enter the building, and must wait in their vehicles. Staff will have pre-packed carts of food to hand out. To prevent health issues, the usual food sign-in procedures will not take place. Staff will ask the number of people in the family. People who come can only pick up for their own family. Please park in front of the food bank building.

Rainier Elementary Pre-Registration

Rainier Elementary School opened up pre-registration for the 2022-2023 school year for incoming kindergartners. In order to qualify for enrollment, your child must be 5 years old by Aug. 31, 2022, which is also the final day for registration. Pre-registration can be accessed at www.rainier.wednet.edu/domain/60.

Friday, May 6

Storytime

The Yelm Timberland Library will hold its virtual Zoom Family Storytime at 10 a.m. Friday, May 6. Join the library’s expert storytime providers and other families live on Zoom every Friday for songs, music, movement, books and activities for the whole family. Children must be accompanied by a participating adult. Register online at events.trl.org/events/month by clicking the event to receive the Zoom link and to get weekly email reminders. Be aware that each individual storytime has a unique Zoom link. When you’re signing in for storytime, make sure you are clicking on the Zoom link for the correct date and time.

Saturday, May 7

Farmers Market

The Tenino Farmers Market will kick off its season from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, May 7. The market runs on Saturdays from May through September.

Cannon Dedication Ceremony

The Norse West Vikings, the American Legion Post 164 and the VFW will place a new cannon at the veteran service hub at 1 p.m. on Saturday, May 7. The Legion post is located at 16733 103rd Ave. SE in Yelm.

Yelm Amateur Radio Group

The Yelm Amateur Radio Group will meet at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 7. The group is a non-profit organization that provides testing for licensing related to radio, as well as an interest in amateur radio. The group meets on the first and third Saturday of each month at the Emanuel Lutheran Church, 206 Third St. SE, in Yelm.



Monday, May 9

COVID-19 Testing

Bi-weekly COVID-19 testing will be available at the Yelm Community Center from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Monday, May 9. The testing is for symptomatic patients or close contacts. The Yelm Community Center is located at 301 Second St. SE.

Thursday, May 12

Prairie Point Quilters Guild Meeting

The Prairie Point Quilters Guild hosts its meetings on the second and fourth Thursday of each month. The meeting takes place from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Rainier Senior Center, 108 Michigan St. S. Anyone who is interested is welcome to join the group for its meetings.

Saturday, May 14

Craft Fair

The Yelm Outdoor Market Craft Fair will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, May 14 at 14805 Rainier View Drive SE in Yelm. The fair will feature vendors and activities. Attendees can roast a hot dog or a marshmallow, do nature art or shop for treasures. Featured items include crystals, upcycled creations, herbal products, teas, and bath and body products, among other items.

Talent Show

The second annual Rainier Talent Event will take place from 3 to 6 p.m. on Saturday, May 14 at the old gym at Rainier High School, 308 Second St. SE. The free community event will feature performers who are looking to share their talents. The event isn’t a competition, but rather a showcase. Castle Realty, We Love Rainier and the Rainier Senior Center is sponsoring the event.

Sunday, May 15

Paint and Sip

The Shiplap Shop in Yelm will host a paint and sip class at 2 p.m. on Sunday, May 15. The class will be held outside and may be rescheduled depending on the weather. All skill levels are welcome. Participants will paint peacock artwork on a special canvas size. The event is open to all ages, but the painting class is recommended for those who are 8 or older. Seating is limited and pre-registration is required. It will be held at 112 E. Yelm Ave. in Yelm. Tickets are $40. To register, or to learn more, email info@artvana.life.

Saturday, May 28

Yelm Fitness Center Grand Opening

A ribbon-cutting and grand opening celebration will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 28 at the Yelm Fitness Court, 301 Second St. SE in Yelm. The Yelm Chamber of Commerce will host the ribbon-cutting event at 10 a.m., followed by challenges at 10:15 a.m.
