Senior Lunches

The Yelm Adult Community Center will hold its weekly lunches at 11:30 a.m. to noon on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays. Senior Services for the South Sound operates the Senior Nutrition Program, using the Yelm Senior Center’s commercial kitchen and dining room, at 16530 103rd Ave. SE in Yelm. Their staff prepares lunches for the Yelm, Tenino and Rochester senior centers and Meals on Wheels for homebound seniors in the area.

Food Bank

The Yelm Community Services food bank, at 624 Crystal Springs St. NW in Yelm, will hold a food giveaway from 1 to 3:45 p.m. on Thursday, May 19. Clients cannot enter the building, and must wait in their vehicles. Staff will have pre-packed carts of food to hand out. To prevent health issues, the usual food sign-in procedures will not take place. Staff will ask the number of people in the family. People who come can only pick up for their own family. Please park in front of the food bank building.

Rainier Elementary Pre-Registration

Rainier Elementary School opened up pre-registration for the 2022-2023 school year for incoming kindergartners. In order to qualify for enrollment, your child must be 5 years old by Aug. 31, 2022, which is also the final day for registration. Pre-registration can be accessed at www.rainier.wednet.edu/domain/60.

Friday, May 20

Storytime

The Yelm Timberland Library will hold its virtual Zoom Family Storytime at 10 a.m. Friday, May 20. Join the library’s expert storytime providers and other families live on Zoom every Friday for songs, music, movement, books and activities for the whole family. Children must be accompanied by a participating adult. Register online at events.trl.org/events/month by clicking the event to receive the Zoom link and to get weekly email reminders. Be aware that each individual storytime has a unique Zoom link. When you’re signing in for storytime, make sure you are clicking on the Zoom link for the correct date and time.

Lions Club Swap Meet

The Yelm Lions Club will host its Spring Swap Meet on Friday, May 20, through Sunday, May 22. The event will run from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. all three days.  The swap meet will feature various vendors, crafts and yard salers.

Family Game Night

The Yelm Lions Club will host a family game night from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Carlson Cabin at 301 W. Yelm Ave. The free event will feature popcorn, board games and card games.

Saturday, May 21

Pretty City Day

A citywide cleanup event will take place from 2 to 6 p.m. on Sunday, May 21. People are asked to walk around Yelm and pick up garbage. Dumpsters will be provided at public works. Participants are encouraged to come up with a fun team name and post pictures on social media with the tagline #yelmisaprettycity. Following the clean up, local food trucks will be on hand at Yelm City Park so people can purchase food. Splash Bash

The Tenino Splash Bash will take place from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 21 at The Kodiak Room, 225 Sussex Ave. W. in Tenino. Put on your boots and western wear and mosey on over to raise money for the Tenino Quarry Pool and kids in the community. There will be a silent and live auction, dinner and drinks, live entertainment and a best dressed contest. Tickets are $50 each. For more information, contact Joyce Worrell at 360-264-5228.

COVID-19 Testing

Weekly COVID-19 testing will be available at the Rainier Sportsmans Club from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Monday, May 23. The testing is for symptomatic patients or close contacts. The Rainier Sportsmans Club is located at 404 Alaska St., Rainier.

Prairie Point Quilters Guild Meeting

The Prairie Point Quilters Guild hosts its meetings on the second and fourth Thursday of each month. The meeting takes place from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Rainier Senior Center, 108 Michigan St. S. Anyone who is interested is welcome to join the group for its meetings.

Leads at Lunch

The Yelm Chamber of Commerce will host Leads at Lunch from noon to 1 p.m. at Red Lantern Asian Fusion, 10501 Creek St. SE in Yelm. Attendees can network and create relationships with other business owners. The event is a no-host lunch.

Saturday, May 28

Yelm Fitness Center Grand Opening

A ribbon-cutting and grand opening celebration will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 28 at the Yelm Fitness Court, 301 Second St. SE in Yelm. The Yelm Chamber of Commerce will host the ribbon-cutting event at 10 a.m., followed by challenges at 10:15 a.m.

Yelm Farmers Market

The Yelm Farmers Market will open at 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 28. The event will be located at 301 Second St. SE, Yelm. Come join many of your favorite local vendors as the 2022 Yelm Farmers Market gets underway.

Saturday, June 4

Yelm Amateur Radio Group

The Yelm Amateur Radio Group will meet at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, June 4. The group is a non-profit organization that provides testing for licensing related to radio, as well as an interest in amateur radio. The group meets on the first and third Saturday of each month at the Emanuel Lutheran Church, 206 Third St. SE, in Yelm.
