Food Bank

The Yelm Community Services food bank, at 624 Crystal Springs St. NW in Yelm, will hold a food giveaway from 1 to 3:45 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 2. Clients cannot enter the building and must wait in their vehicles. Staff will have pre-packed carts of food to hand out. To prevent health issues, the usual food sign-in procedures will not take place. Staff will ask the number of people in the family. People who come can only pick up for their own family. Please park in front of the food bank building.

Estuarium Introduction to Ornithology 

Puget Sound Estuarium will host a Facebook live and Zoom meeting at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 2, for an introduction to ornithology, which is the study of birds. Saturday, Feb. 4

Yelm Amateur Radio Group

The Yelm Amateur Radio Group will meet at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 4. The group is a nonprofit organization that provides testing for licensing related to radio, as well as an interest in amateur radio. The group meets on the first and third Saturday of each month at the Emanuel Lutheran Church, 206 Third St. SE, in Yelm. 

Traveling Treasures Valentine’s Sale

Traveling Treasures Pacific Northwest Vendor Group is set to host a Valentine’s sale at the Nisqually Moose Lodge from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 4. Admission is free to all. Local vendors and businesses will sell their goods at the event. 

Thursday, Feb. 9

Taste of the Prairie: Red Lantern

On Thursday, Feb. 9, people can visit Red Lantern Asian Fusion from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. and a portion of proceeds will be donated to Yelm Dollars for Scholars. Red Lantern Asian Fusion is located at 10501 Creek St. SE in Yelm.

Prairie Point Quilters Guild Meeting

The Prairie Point Quilters Guild hosts its meetings on the second and fourth Thursday of each month. The meeting takes place from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Rainier Senior Center, 108 Michigan St. S. Anyone who is interested is welcome to join the group for its meetings.

Saturday, Feb. 11

Fundraising Breakfast

The Yelm Senior Center will host its fundraising breakfast from 9 to 11 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 11. It costs $8 per person. The breakfast includes biscuits and gravy, scrambled eggs and bacon, waffles, coffee, tea, hot chocolate, juice and milk. The fundraising breakfast takes place on the second Saturday of each month. The senior center is located at 16530 103rd Ave. SE in Yelm.



Galentine’s Day Brunch

The City of Yelm will host a “Galentine’s Day Brunch” at the Yelm Community Center from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Feb. 11. Registration is available online at www.yelmwa.gov. Tickets cost $25 and include brunch, a faux-mosa bar, and a goodie bag. 

Olympia Chamber Orchestra Valentine’s Fundraiser

The Olympia Chamber Orchestra is set to host a fundraiser at Mr. Doug’s Restaurant at 210 NE 103rd Ave. on Saturday, Feb. 11. The event begins at 6 p.m. and attendees can listen to live music, dance, and eat food at the restaurant. Tickets for the fundraiser can be purchased on the Olympia Chamber Orchestra’s website at www.olympiachamberorchestra.org.

Tuesday, Feb. 14

Taste of the Prairie: Varsity Pizza

On Tuesday, Feb. 14, people can visit Varsity Pizza in Roy from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. and a portion of proceeds will be donated to Yelm Dollars for Scholars. Varsity Pizza is located at 35025 90th Ave. S. in Roy.

State of the City With Mayor DePinto

Mayor Joe DePinto will deliver the State of the City address at the Yelm Chamber of Commerce’s February forum, which will be hosted at the Yelm Community Center at 301 Second St. SE. The event begins at noon and concludes around 1 p.m. Tickets for the event can be purchased online at eventbrite.com. 

Saturday, Feb. 18

Olympia Chamber Orchestra Performance at Yelm Community Center

The Olympia Chamber Orchestra is set to perform at the Yelm Community Center at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 18. The event is free to the public. Attendees will hear a plethora of live, classical music. 

Friday, Feb. 24

Taste of the Prairie: Jim Bob’s Chuck Wagon

On Friday, Feb. 24, people can visit Jim Bob’s Chuck Wagon in McKenna from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. and a portion of proceeds will be donated to Yelm Dollars for Scholars. Jim Bob’s Chuck Wagon is located at 35119 state Route 507 in McKenna.

Friday, March 3

Taste of the Prairie: El Rey Burro

On Friday, March 3, people can visit El Rey Burro in Yelm from 10:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. and a portion of proceeds will be donated to Yelm Dollars for Scholars. El Rey Burro is located at 706 E. Yelm Ave.
