Food Bank
The Yelm Community Services food bank, at 624 Crystal Springs St. NW in Yelm, will hold a food giveaway from 1 to 3:45 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 4. Clients cannot enter the building and must wait in their vehicles. Staff will have pre-packed carts of food to hand out. To prevent health issues, the usual food sign-in procedures will not take place. Staff will ask the number of people in the family. People who come can only pick up for their own family. Please park in front of the food bank building.
Friday, Aug. 5
Antique Sale at Pack Rat Pat’s
Pack Rat Pat’s will host its annual antique sale from Friday, Aug. 5 through Sunday, Aug. 7 at its location at 8742 Rathbun Road SE in Yelm. The sale will run from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Aug. 5 and Aug. 6, and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Aug. 7. There will also be individual vendors selling their “own unique product” at the event.
Jazz in the Park
The fifth annual Jazz in the Park event will take place from 6 to 10 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 5, and from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 6. The festivities will occur at Yelm City Park, with no charge for admission. People are asked to bring blankets, chairs and food. There will also be food offered on site. A beer and wine garden will be available.
Saturday, Aug. 6
Yelm Amateur Radio Group
The Yelm Amateur Radio Group will meet at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 6. The group is a nonprofit organization that provides testing for licensing related to radio, as well as an interest in amateur radio. The group meets on the first and third Saturday of each month at the Emanuel Lutheran Church, 206 Third St. SE, in Yelm.
Wednesday, Aug. 10
Veterans Affairs Advisory Committee Town Hall
The Veterans Affairs Advisory Committee will hold a town hall meeting at the Yelm Community Center, 301 Second St. SE in Yelm, from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 10. The meeting will inform veterans on services that are available to them.
Thursday, Aug. 11
Grand Opening Event
The Clarus Eye Centre at Yelm will hold an event to celebrate its grand opening from 5 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 11. A ribbon-cutting will take place at 6 p.m. To RSVP, text “yes” to 360-791-2090 or email sashak@claruseye.com. The eye center is located at the Yelm Medical Plaza at 201 Tahoma Blvd.
Prairie Point Quilters Guild Meeting
The Prairie Point Quilters Guild hosts its meetings on the second and fourth Thursday of each month. The meeting takes place from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Rainier Senior Center, 108 Michigan St. S. Anyone who is interested is welcome to join the group for its meetings.
Saturday, Aug. 20
Yelm Lions Club Cornhole Tournament
The Yelm Lions Club will hold its third annual cornhole tournament on Saturday, Aug. 20 at Mr. Doug’s Restaurant in Yelm. The event begins at noon and will conclude at 6 p.m. Teams must pay an $80 registration fee. Registration is limited to the first 32 teams that sign up. Yelm Lions Annual Membership Picnic
The Yelm Lions Club will host its annual membership picnic on Monday, Aug. 22 beginning at 6 p.m. and wrapping up around 8 p.m. The picnic will be hosted at Wilcox Farms.
Friday, Aug. 26
Rainier Bluegrass Festival
The Rainier Bluegrass festival is a three-day event that kicks off Friday, Aug. 26 from 3 to 7 p.m. The Bluegrass Festival will feature live music, food vendors and more. The festival will also run from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 27 and begins at 9:30 a.m. on Sunday, Aug. 28. Camping spots can be reserved online at www.rainierpickinparty.com.
Thursday, Sept. 8
Southworth Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony
The Yelm School Board will host a ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate the new Southworth Elementary School. It will be held at 4 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 8, prior to the 6 p.m. school board meeting at the building. During the ceremony, tours of the new facility will be provided.
Saturday, Sept. 10
Yelm FFA Alumni Car Show
The Yelm FFA Alumni Association will host a car show at Yelm High School on Saturday, Sept. 10, beginning at 9 a.m. There is a $20 registration fee for those interested in showing off their prized car, truck, or motorcycle. All funds go to Yelm FFA students. Yelm High School is located at 1315 W. Yelm Ave.
