Resource Fair

Love Abounds Here will host a resource fair from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Thursday, April 28 at the Yelm Community Center, 301 Second St. SE. The event will feature free COVID-19 vaccinations for those who are 5 years old or older. There will also be free legal services, career and addiction counseling, as well as information on rent, phone and utility assistance, among other offerings. 

Business After Hours

The Yelm Chamber of Commerce will host Drive 507 Business After Hours at PTL Hardwood Floors LLC from 5:07 to 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 28 at 310 Railroad St. NW. Attendees can network with other chamber members, business owners and local professionals. 

Yelm FFA Plant Sale

The Yelm FFA will host its annual plant sale from Thursday, April 28 to Saturday, April 30. It will run from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. on April 28, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on April 29 and from 8 a.m. to noon on April 30. Parking will be available near the greenhouses at Yelm High School located at 1315 W. Yelm Ave. Proceeds from the event will be funneled back into the Yelm FFA program. 

Senior Lunches

The Yelm Adult Community Center will hold its weekly lunches at 11:30 a.m. to noon on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays. Senior Services for the South Sound operates the Senior Nutrition Program, using the Yelm Senior Center’s commercial kitchen and dining room, at 16530 103rd Ave. SE in Yelm. Their staff prepares lunches for the Yelm, Tenino and Rochester senior centers and Meals on Wheels for homebound seniors in the area.

Food Bank

The Yelm Community Services food bank, at 624 Crystal Springs St. NW in Yelm, will hold a food giveaway from 1 to 3:45 p.m. on Thursday, April 28. Clients cannot enter the building, and must wait in their vehicles. Staff will have pre-packed carts of food to hand out. To prevent health issues, the usual food sign-in procedures will not take place. Staff will ask the number of people in the family. People who come can only pick up for their own family. Please park in front of the food bank building.

Rainier Elementary Pre-Registration

Rainier Elementary School opened up pre-registration for the 2022-2023 school year for incoming kindergartners. In order to qualify for enrollment, your child must be 5 years old by Aug. 31, 2022, which is also the final day for registration. Pre-registration can be accessed at www.rainier.wednet.edu/domain/60.

Arbor Day Celebration

The city of Yelm will hold an Arbor Day event at 11 a.m. on Friday, April 29 at the Yelm Community Center, 301 Second St. The Arbor Day Foundation will honor the city as a “Tree City USA” award recipient. There will be an Arbor Day Art Walk featuring participants of the 2022 annual Arbor Day Art Contest, music performances by the choirs of Yelm Community Schools, and the planting of a tree gifted from Lacey, which is Yelm’s sister city, at Yelm City Park near the new community garden. Attendees can receive a free tree at the event.

Family Burger Night

The American Legion will host a family burger night from 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday, April 29. All military families are invited to a fun family fellowship event at the Joseph Redberg Post 164 of the American Legion. Burgers, fries or chips, and a drink can be purchased for a $7 donation. The post is located at 16733 103rd Ave. SE in Yelm.

Storytime

The Yelm Timberland Library will hold its virtual Zoom Family Storytime at 10 a.m. Friday, April 29. Join the library’s expert storytime providers and other families live on Zoom every Friday for songs, music, movement, books and activities for the whole family. Children must be accompanied by a participating adult. Register online at events.trl.org/events/month by clicking the event to receive the Zoom link and to get weekly email reminders. Be aware that each individual storytime has a unique Zoom link. When you’re signing in for storytime, make sure you are clicking on the Zoom link for the correct date and time.

Nisqually Valley Home Show

The Nisqually Valley Home Show will take place on Saturday, April 30 at Yelm High School, 1315 W. Yelm Ave. The event is free to attend. Over 100 vendors are expected and various workshops will take place at the event. For more information, go online to nisquallyhomeshow.com.

Moose Lodge Spring Bazaar

The Nisqually Valley Moose Lodge will host its fourth annual Spring Bazaar from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, April 30 and from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday, May 1 at the lodge located next to Yelm High School. The Women of the Moose will also hold their bake sale during the event. The Moose Lodge is located at 1117 W. Yelm Ave.

Saturday, May 7

Yelm Amateur Radio Group

The Yelm Amateur Radio Group will meet at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 7. The group is a nonprofit organization that provides testing for licensing related to radio, as well as an interest in amateur radio. The group meets on the first and third Saturday of each month at the Emanuel Lutheran Church, 206 Third St. SE, in Yelm.
