Senior Lunches

The Yelm Adult Community Center will hold its weekly lunches at 11:30 a.m. to noon on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays. Senior Services for the South Sound operates the Senior Nutrition Program, using the Yelm Senior Center’s commercial kitchen and dining room, at 16530 103rd Ave. S.E. in Yelm. Their staff prepares lunches for the Yelm, Tenino and Rochester senior centers and Meals on Wheels for homebound seniors in the area.

Food Bank

The Yelm Community Services food bank, at 624 Crystal Springs St. N.W. in Yelm, will hold a food giveaway from 1 to 3:45 p.m. on Thursday, April 14. Clients cannot enter the building, and must wait in their vehicles. Staff will have pre-packed carts of food to hand out. To prevent health issues, the usual food sign-in procedures will not take place. Staff will ask the number of people in the family. People who come can only pick up for their own family. Please park in front of the food bank building.

Prairie Point Quilters Guild Meeting

The Prairie Point Quilters Guild hosts its meetings on the second and fourth Thursday of each month. The meeting takes place from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Rainier Senior Center, 108 Michigan St. S. Anyone who is interested is welcome to join the group for its meetings.

Rainier Elementary Pre-Registration

Rainier Elementary School opened up pre-registration for the 2022-2023 school year for incoming kindergartners. In order to qualify for enrollment, your child must be 5 years old by Aug. 31, 2022, which is also the final day for registration. Pre-registration can be accessed at www.rainier.wednet.edu/domain/60.

Storytime

The Yelm Timberland Library will hold its virtual Zoom Family Storytime at 10 a.m. Friday, April 15. Join the library’s expert storytime providers and other families live on Zoom every Friday for songs, music, movement, books and activities for the whole family. Children must be accompanied by a participating adult. Register online at events.trl.org/events/month by clicking the event to receive the Zoom link and to get weekly email reminders. Be aware that each individual storytime has a unique Zoom link. When you’re signing in for storytime, make sure you are clicking on the Zoom link for the correct date and time.

Easter Egg Hunt

We Love Rainier will host its annual Easter egg hunt on Saturday, April 16 at Wilkowski Park in Rainier. There will also be a bounce house, face painting, ice cream sales, a bake sale, a raffle and selfies with the Easter Bunny. The event will run from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m., with the egg hunt at 2 p.m. Kids will be divided into four age groups with a separate hunt area for each group.

Yelm Amateur Radio Group



The Yelm Amateur Radio Group will meet at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 16. The group is a non-profit organization that provides testing for licensing related to radio, as well as an interest in amateur radio. The group meets on the first and third Saturday of each month at the Emanuel Lutheran Church, 206 Third St. S.E., in Yelm.

Sunday, April 17

Easter Celebration

Join the Auxiliary at the American Legion Post 164 in Yelm for an Easter celebration from 1 to 7 p.m. on Sunday, April 17. There will be games and entertainment for all ages. The main event will start at 1 p.m. and will consist of a traditional egg hunt for ages 1-12. There will also be face painting, a three-legged race, a water balloon toss, an egg race, egg coloring and more. Prizes will be included. All ages are welcome to participate in the games after the egg hunt. There will also be chance drawings for Easter baskets. A dinner will be held at 5 p.m. Ham will be prepared and there will be potluck-style dishes. Prices for the dinner are $20 per adult and $5 per child. Those who do not RSVP can pay $25 per adult and $7 per child at the door. RSVP for the events by calling 360-458-3230 or by stopping by the American Legion Post at 16733 103rd Ave. S.E. in Yelm.

Easter Breakfast and Egg Hunt

The Nisqually Valley Moose Lodge will host an Easter Sunday breakfast and kids Easter egg hunt on Sunday, April 17. Breakfast will feature ham, eggs, sausage and pancakes. It will run from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. It costs $8 for adults and kids age 12 and under eat free. The Easter egg hunt will take place  at 11 a.m. The Nisqually Moose Lodge is located at 1117 W. Yelm Ave. in Yelm.

Friday, April 22

Tenino Arts Spring Market

Tenino Arts and the Tenino Area Chamber of Commerce will host the Tenino Arts Spring Market on Friday, April 22 through Sunday, April 24. The event begins at 10 a.m. and will end at 5 p.m. on April 24. There will be 30 local artisans at the weekend market. It will be held at The Kodiak Room at 225 Sussex Ave. W. in Tenino.

Monday, April 25

COVID-19 Testing

Bi-weekly COVID-19 testing will be available at the Yelm Community Center from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Monday, April 25. The testing is for symptomatic patients or close contacts. The Yelm Community Center is located at 301 Second St. S.E.

Saturday, April 30

Nisqually Valley Home Show

The Nisqually Valley Home Show will take place on Saturday, April 30 at Yelm High School, 1315 W. Yelm Ave. The event is free to attend. Over 100 vendors are expected and various workshops will take place at the event. For more information, go online to nisquallyhomeshow.com.
