Nisqually Red Wind Casino temporarily closes after cyber attack

Nisqually Red Wind Casino temporarily closed on Wednesday, March 6, and Thursday, March 7, after experiencing servers going offline due to what was described as a cybersecurity incident on the Nisqually Red Wind Casino’s Facebook page.

The casino wrote on Facebook last week that staff were working with a team of professionals to reopen the Red Wind as quickly as possible.

“We value our guests and will honor all missed offers at a later date. Please stay tuned for further updates regarding our reopening,” Nisqually Red Wind Casino wrote. “We appreciate your understanding and look forward to seeing you soon.”

On Friday, March 8, the Red Wind Casino announced that only tribal and team member pay checks were able to be cashed, as the cashing system was still down. The ATMs also worked, but no credit or debit card — only cash — transactions could take place.

The casino also announced that all free play offers that were missed this month were reissued and added back to guest accounts, which will conclude at 3 a.m., Friday, March 15. This includes current free play offers, slots and tables with no progressive bets, point earnings, ticket redemption, keno and sports betting, and limited food and beverage options.

Following the incident, new club account signups could not be created, and check cashing; credit and debit card transactions; enrollment kiosks; and points-at-the-pump rewards weren’t available either.

“We truly appreciate your patience as we work hard behind the scenes to get all services fully back up and running for you,” staff wrote on March 8. “We hope to see you soon.”

As of Tuesday morning, Red Wind Casino had not updated its Facebook post.
