Yelm district to host levy forums in April

Yelm Community Schools  (YCS) wants to answer the community’s questions regarding its replacement educational programs and operations levy that YCS is asking voters to approve on an April 23 special election. The district will host five forums in April in which administrators will hear and answer questions from voters. The forums will take place across three days at three different locations:

• Tuesday, April 9: 8:30 a.m., noon and 6 p.m. at Yelm Cinemas, 201 Prairie Park Lane SE

• Wednesday, April 10: 6 p.m. at McKenna Elementary, 35120 state Route 507, Roy

• Thursday, April 11: 6 p.m. at Lackamas Elementary, 201 Prairie Park Lane SE, Yelm

After its first replacement levy failed in the Feb. 13 special election, the school board voted to place another measure on the ballot but with a reduced collection rate of $2.25 per $1,000 of assessed property value. The original rate in the first measure was $2.50 per $1,000 of assessed property value, which was the approved rate for the expiring levy in 2020.
