Munchies Plus Offers Menu Variety With a Twist in Yelm

Posted

Munchies Plus coffee opened up shop on Friday, July 29, at its location at 1110 E. Yelm Ave.  in the same building as King Cronic Vape and Smoke. The business currently offers traditional coffee drinks, but they have a menu expansion for those looking for relief in their coffee.

Consumers can crush their caffeine craving by ordering coffee items such as mochas, Americanos, Vietnamese Coffee, CBD-infused coffee and more.

Munchies Plus offers a big selection of boba tea and customers can mix and match flavors.

It has a selection of food that includes cookies and macaroons from Sav’s Sweets in Roy. They will also offer cupcakes from the Gilham Bakery in McKenna.

“When you consume marijuana, you get the munchies. But it’s more than just that too. That’s what Munchies Plus is. We offer food and refreshments at our location,” said Andy Yip, who owns Munchies Plus as well as King Cronic and Cronic Vape and Smoke.

The new shop plans on creating a discount after summer concludes to offer students stopping by for refreshments.

How can underage students buy from a coffee shop that’s inside of a smoke store? The business has added a window so customers under the age of 21 can still get refreshments.

Munchies Plus also offers a military discount for those in the armed forces.

“We want to create relationships with members of our community so they keep coming back,” Yip said. “But right now, it’s all about spreading the word of our business, and that’s what we’re trying to do.”

Yip noted that before the pandemic, the coffee shop was open inside but with fewer options. Now, completely revamped, Munchies Plus hopes to see familiar faces continue to come to the shop.

He added that it’s nice being able to offer a wider variety of drinks on their menu, such as boba tea and Vietnamese Coffee. He said that most of the coffee shops in Yelm don’t offer boba tea, so he’s happy to have something semi-unique to his business. They even have a map of suggestions to help create new combinations for the boba tea.

Yip and Munchies Plus have had talks about potentially catering, but it’s still up in the air. They had their “soft” opening on Saturday, July 16, during the first ever Yelm Music Festival, where they sold a number of offerings from the menu. After seeing success in that, it sparked the idea of potentially catering.

But as of right now, there are only two ways for you to get your hands on some delicious boba or espresso. You can either place an order at the shop, or place an order with DoorDash and have it delivered right to your home or have it ready to pick up at the store.

Yip said that as the business continues to grow, he aims to sponsor community activities to win prizes such as gift cards to Munchies Plus.

Munchies Plus has an instagram account under @munchiesplus_. The business is open seven days a week, from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.
