Cross Country roundup: Mountaineers run wild at Adna

The Rainier cross country team came home with four of the top seven boys finishes and seven of the top eight girls ones to dominate both sides of a Central 2B League meet at Adna that included the Mountaineers, Pirates, Kalama and Mossyrock.

The girls race came down to the wire, with Rainier freshman Rayanna Wisner barely holding off Angelica Askey, beating her teammate by two-tenths of a second in 17:12.59.

Those two provided the entertainment with their close finish, but after the fact the two ended up being slotted down a peg in the final listing, behind teammate Madison Ingram. The Rainier junior ran in the boys’ heat, and finished in 15:46 — coming 11th out of 30 runners in that race and beating the girls’ field by a minute and a half.

Behind those three, Ella Marvin finished fourth in 17:53.8 and Kinsley Barlow was sixth at 18:33.59 to cap off the Mountaineers’ team score, but Emma Mathson (19:16) and Raychel Hansen (19:32) made it two more Mountaineers in the top 10 with seventh and eighth-place finishes, respectively.

Mossyrock’s Joan Wedam was fifth with a time of 18:14.09. Adna’s Megan Price (19:42.59) and Megan Stoute (19:43) rounded out the top 10.

Rainier’s James Meldrum won the boys’ race in 14:24.67, just under 30 seconds ahead of teammate Zach Hamilton (14:53.92). Jake Hanson (15:36.35) was sixth, and Zander Peck (15:40.40) for the Mountaineers.

Adna’s Bailey Davis came in third in 15:17.58, while Treven Willis (15:42.48) was eighth.

Ethan Wedam took ninth for Mossyrock with a time of 15:43.61.
