Members of Lions Club to Ring Bell for Salvation Army at Yelm Safeway

The Yelm Lions Club will ring The Salvation Army bell from Sunday, Dec. 18 through Christmas Eve at the Yelm Safeway.

Last year, people in Yelm donated over $2,500 to The Salvation Army pot.  According to Lonnie Franklin, with The Salvation Army, the organization returns more than $14,000 each year to people in need in the Yelm area. Those efforts include grants for power, propane and gasoline assistance.

This Yelm Lions project started over 60 years ago in front of the old Wolf’s Shoprite and has continued since then.

“It is really rewarding for the Lions volunteers to see how generous people are in giving,” stated an email from the Lions Club. “Also just about every volunteer has had someone tell them that during their life, The Salvation Army played a large part in saving or making an improvement in their life. Please give this year to The Salvation Army on the week before Christmas.”
