Man Sentenced for Molesting 9-Year-Old Yelm Girl

Army reservist Joseph Scott Wahleithner, 25, Lynnwood, was sentenced on Monday to 12 months in prison and to receive counseling for molesting a 9-year-old Yelm girl in October 2014.

Wahleithner was initially sentenced to 68 months in prison. That sentence was suspended down to 12 months and Wahleithner was given a special sex offender sentencing alternative meaning he will receive treatment and counseling. The family of the victim urged the court for the SSOSA to avoid a trial.

A SSOSA allows some offenders to receive treatment and counseling for sex offenses. The offender will still register as a sex offender.

According to court documents, the victim’s mother is angry about what happened to her daughter but does not want to have any more contact with Wahleithner. The mother also believes that the SSOSA program will help Wahleithner.

“I think this (our) family has been through more than enough with Joseph (Wahleithner),” the victim’s grandmother said in a letter read in court.

A SSOSA hearing is scheduled this June to determine the details of the treatment.
