Joy Hiebert, aesthetician and owner of BeJoyful Holistics, wants to assure the Yelm community that her business will still be running despite her storefront closing on Saturday, Dec. 30.

Her aesthetic services and skincare line will remain available as she will be working from her home studio starting the second week of January. Hiebert’s products, such as skincare products, gifts, crystals, minerals and jewelry, will also be available online. She crafts her holistic skincare products herself from scratch.

Hiebert described her final day at her 512 W. Yelm Ave. storefront “bittersweet.”

“It’s sad, but I just want to get it over with, like ripping off a Band-Aid,” Hiebert said. “I’m just ready to move on to the next step. Everything I picked out for the store was perfect for what I wanted, so that’s kind of sad. The whole aesthetic of it was so me and so pretty, and I’m gonna miss that part.”

She opened the storefront in 2020 after forming the business in 2016, spending the first few years in her home studio. While she said she will miss the storefront she spent so much time and money creating, a home studio will allow her to run the business at her own pace.

“Some days are wonderful, and you get to make people happy, but other days I’m so tired,” Hiebert said. “I feel like I’ve aged a lot. I was here constantly. It felt like I didn’t have a life, and I do not want to live that kind of life, working myself to death. I want my schedule to be my own.”

Hiebert said the price of overhead was tough to maintain, especially as her revenue dipped from previous years. She sat down with her husband and decided to close the storefront and create a home studio, which will also allow her to spend more time with her family.

“We really had a heart-to-heart talk and decided that it’s probably better for us to just take the overhead off completely and save money and work from home so that I can be more present with my family,” Hiebert said. “That’s super important to me. But I will still have all my services.”

Hiebert said she will miss the comfortable space she provided, not just to customers, but to local youth as well.

“This was their happy place. So many of the kids would come here, and this was their safe place,” she said. “They’re bullied at school, and they would just come and talk to me and hang out. We had couches and chairs, and you could just come and sit and talk if you wanted. I’m going to miss not being able to be there for people.”

Hiebert said the business is an accumulation of 25 years in the industry and is thankful for the Yelm community, which has welcomed her and supported her dream.

“It’s exciting and scary at the same time, but I have a wonderful clientele base already. I think I’ll be OK,” she said of closing the storefront. “I just want to thank the Yelm community for embracing me while I ran the storefront and did all sorts of events. They always made me feel welcome. I’m still here, but I’m just not as visible. The website will still be there, and you can still book online.”
