JZ Knight lawsuit is a story we will keep covering

JZ Knight may have had success in getting copies of unflattering videos pulled off the Internet,  but that doesn’t mean that there aren’t more videos surfacing.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: You cannot put toothpaste back into the tube.

I recently watched a fifth, longer video of Knight as Ramtha, and let’s just say, it ain’t a pretty sight.

In the most recent video, Knight is slurring her speech, bashing Jews and severely castigating Ramtha School of Enlightenment students and RSE staff.

As I watched Knight belittle and berate her doting supporters, I couldn’t help but think that most of these people paid quite dearly to be treated quite poorly.

I knew when I wrote last week’s column that it would shake the hornet’s nest, and it did.

In addition to the letters to the editor critical of me — which I am publishing — some unhappy folks have also posted their comments on the Nisqually Valley News website at www.yelmonline.com

In an online post, Knight spokesman Steve Klein said, “As you are the single person in this community responsible for keeping this story on your front pages and website week after week, this story remaining in the news lies solely in your hands.”

I must dispute Klein’s point.

I would argue that JZ Knight is putting herself into the headlines.

Knight is the one who spewed the hate speech on video and then very publicly sued Virginia Coverdale to get the videos pulled out of public view. It was Knight’s machine that issued a press release by Coverdale’s brother stating that his sister was being vindictive because she slept with Knight’s former boyfriend, James Flick.

It was Knight who unsuccessfully subpoenaed The Freedom Foundation in an ill-conceived move to obtain information.

Continued Klein: “The Thurston County Superior Court found JZK, Inc’s basis for litigation to be valid, meaning there will be hearings and discovery that could occur for quite some time, as is every litigant’s right to collect such information. Is every hearing or subpoena going to be an NVN front page story? Only you can answer that.”

“Perhaps,” is my answer to that question, Steve.

I never guarantee coverage, but this story is news.

Knight has never shied from media coverage. She’s appeared on the Mike Douglas Show, Larry King, on radio and even in movies.

She issues press releases.

Knight has wielded her celebrity to enhance her profile and, presumably, her bank account. To contend that, when the coverage isn’t controlled or flattering, the NVN is overplaying the story just doesn’t hold water.

Fame has its perks, but it also has its price. In both cases it’s media coverage.
