In Loving Memory of David and Shirley Englund

David Leroy Englund, beloved husband and father, passed peacefully on Wednesday Nov. 30. He was born on Aug. 31, 1938, to Arnold Englund and Edna (Goodwin) Baier in Rainier, Washington. He attended Rainier High School.

Shirley Marie (Aschenbrenner) Englund, beloved wife and mother, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday Nov. 12, 2022. She was born November 10, 1940, to Albert and Rosetta (Haskins) Aschenbrenner in Newell, South Dakota. 

Dave and Shirley married on Sept. 3, 1958. They raised three children, Tracy, Mark and Nadine (Dee Dee). They recently celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary. Dave worked for the Rainier House Movers and then for Weyerhaeuser. Shirley was a homemaker and volunteered at the school. Dave was a member of the Rainier Fire Department for over 30 years and served as a Thurston County fire commissioner for over 17 years. Shirley was a member of the Rainier Fire Auxiliary. Dave and Shirley both enjoyed golfing, bowling and playing baseball. They did everything together from gardening to hunting. They were members of the Rainier Sportsman’s Club, Rainier Dance Club and also the Yelm Moose Club where they enjoyed working the annual fishing derby. 

Dave and Shirley are survived by daughter Tracy Englund Dietrich (Fred), son Mark Englund and daughter Dee Dee Englund (Roger). They are also survived by three grandchildren, Anthony (Melynda), Tyler and Brittany and two great-granddaughters, Jade and Charlie. 

Dave and Shirley passed 18 days apart, which was a touching testament of their true love for each other. 

A celebration of life for David and Shirley will be planned at a later date.
